Our Story
About My Eyes began with a simple truth: most vision problems are preventable, yet too few people know how to protect their sight.
What started as My Eye Care Team, a small community education project, has grown into a nonprofit dedicated exclusively to eye health awareness and public education.
Founded by optometrist Dr. Irina Yakubin, About My Eyes was created to close the gap between medical knowledge and everyday understanding — to make clear, practical eye health information available to everyone, not just patients in the exam chair.
Our Mission
To improve lives through eye health education.
We empower individuals and communities to take charge of their vision through preventive education, outreach, and partnerships that promote lifelong visual wellness.
What We Do
Educate: We translate complex eye care topics into clear, accessible information through workshops, online resources, and awareness campaigns.
Collaborate: We work with schools, libraries, and community groups to make vision education part of everyday wellness.
Advocate: We champion early detection, regular eye exams, and equitable access to care for all ages and backgrounds.
Our Vision
A world where everyone understands how to protect their sight — and where education, not circumstance, determines visual outcomes.
Why It Matters
Vision loss doesn’t just affect eyesight — it impacts independence, education, and quality of life.
By focusing on awareness and prevention, About My Eyes helps people recognize symptoms early, understand treatment options, and feel empowered to care for their eyes.
